About Me

Hello. My name is Mrs. Skye Miss Weisner (there are some students and teachers at the school who still call me Mrs. Skye, and I answer to both 🙂 ). I have had the pleasure of teaching at QMS for the past 7 years. This will be my sixteenth year teaching in New Westminster. I have 2 daughters and one cat. I love reading (as you will know if you have ever seen inside my cupboard at school).

In my spare time I am on an outrigger canoe team. What is an outrigger canoe? It looks like this:

There are 6 people who paddle at one time. Sometimes (hopefully never for me) the boat can flip over, so we have to know how to get it right side up (while in the water!!) and get back into the boat. We usually paddle for 90 minutes (we take one or two very very short breaks),  so this is an endurance paddle rather than a speed paddle.

Starting in March/April I am also on a Dragon Boat team. A dragon boat looks like this:

There are 20 paddlers, a steersperson and a caller (only during races). I am in this picture. Can you find me?

A dragon boat is meant for speed. A dragon boat race lasts between 2 and 3 minutes (that’s a 500 metre race). So you have to be fast and in time with all the other paddlers.

My goal for this year is to run the SunRun. I ran it in 2009. Wish me luck!

My cat’s name is Noah and my hamster’s name is Shivers. Mrs. Pain gave shivers to me over a year ago. The fish are all at school. All my fish at home have died.
